Songs the Cramps Taught Us

I’m listening to the excellent album ‘Songs the Cramps Taught Us’, a compilation of 50s and 60s tunes that the Cramps have covered at one time or another. The title comes from one of the early Cramps albums titled ‘Songs the Lord Taught Us’.

Two things strike me:

1. All the good Cramps songs seem to be covers.

2. The song ‘Sunglasses After Dark’ by Dwight Pullen and the Motorcycle Gang is awesome. You can’t really argue with a chorus that goes ‘You immediately look sharp, wearing sunglasses after dark’.

    I couldn’t find the original, but here is a cover by the Jets:
