Aging? Or normality?

I’ve been in Sweden for the last week or so. At the moment I’m sitting in a sofa belonging to one of my best friends, in Nyköping, listening to the Solution

I’m on my own.

It’s 23.24.

Hardly late. But my friend’s a project manager at one of Sweden’s largest construction companies, NCC, and he has a building regulations sign-off tomorrow morning.

It’s really important. And so he has gone to bed early. Instead of staying up together we’ve arranged to go fishing tomorrow afternoon.

Completely normal, you may think. But it didn’t use to be like this.

A couple of years ago we used to drink bucketfulls of whiskey and sing along to Turbonegro or the Ramones until 5 in the morning and then go to work in the morning. Going out drinking on a Sunday night was a normal and regularar occurence. And let’s not talk about Friday and Saturday nights.

But now me and all my friends have serious jobs and long-term girlfriends. The all-nigt drinking sessions are being replaced with red wine and dinner.

Am I getting boring?

No, I don’t think so.
